IELTS Express Intermediate Coursebook is one of the best IELTS preparation courses on the market, and you can make significant progress after completing it. This effectiveness is reflected in the plus points of the book:
Help learners familiarize themselves with all types of IELTS questions: Especially for learners who have never done many IELTS questions, the book synthesizes all kinds of questions used in the test (in all four skills), from which we have a better view of IELTS, divide appropriate strategies and skills for each question type. Learners are also provided with exercises with answers and explanations to practice for each question type.
There are lessons for both IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic: If you are still undecided whether you should choose IELTS General Training or Academic, you can use the book because it has notes on the difference between these two tests throughout the course. At the end of Unit 8, three additional sub-Units provide lectures for IELTS General Training.
Learn from the basics: The eight topics in the IELTS Express Intermediate Coursebook give you enough vocabulary to continue studying at higher levels. The linguistic resources can be considered a transition between elementary and intermediate English. The book also focuses on creating a lot of exercises and lectures using the words that the book introduces, helping learners to come into contact with terms many times and make them easier to remember.
However, though IELTS Express Intermediate Coursebook is aimed at beginners, with a band score below 5.0, learners should also complete the 3.0-4.0 route before using it because of the amount of new knowledge in 133 pages.

IELTS Express Upper Intermediate book is divided into 8 Units based on familiar topics. Each Unit will contain 1 active skill (Speaking or Writing) and one passive skill (Reading or Listening). The book has an additional Practice Test section with answers and dialogue (tapescript) at the end.
Each book unit is opened with an Introduction to provide vocabulary related to the topic. IELTS Express Upper Intermediate is one of the best IELTS test preparation courses on the market, and you can make significant progress after completing it. This effectiveness is reflected in the fact that the book guides you on doing different types of Listening and Reading questions.
In volume 2 of the IELTS Express series, the book delves into the methods of answering different types of reading and listening questions, such as how to make multiple-choice questions, true/false/not given sentences, and headings matching. Accompanying each skill is practice exercises with answers and explanations for learners.
With each Part of Speaking, the book creates opportunities for self-study with audio and video recordings in CD and DVD files. The answers are graded and commented on by the examiner. Like the Writing lesson, learners can also refer to 4 sample articles on pages 106-109.
The eight topics in the book IELTS Express Upper Intermediate combined with the eight topics of the previous volume in the series give learners a rich vocabulary that can be used in all 4 IELTS skills. The book also focuses on creating a lot of exercises and lectures using the words that the book introduces, helping learners to come into contact with terms many times and make them easier to remember.
However, IELTS Express Upper Intermediate does not cover all IELTS Writing question types. This may be the book’s weakest point that learners have to supplement with another set of materials more in-depth for Writing skills. The only Task 2 question type instructed to agree/disagree. For Task 1, combined charts, maps, and processes are not guided.

How to Use IELTS Express Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate
It’s advisable to divide the book set by four skills so that you can see that 2 Units will be full of 4 skills. That means you need to learn skills alternately. The self-study route with books that you can apply is as follows:
- Study 1 Unit per day, spend about 2-3 hours reviewing and practising more thoroughly.
- Read the Introduction – introduce the lesson format carefully, and learn the tips noted on the side to apply to your lesson.
- After completing the exercise, you can see the answer to check if it is correct!
