Mindset for IELTS Foundation, the multi-level course from the organization that produces the IELTS test, develops students’ English skills and leaves them fully prepared for test day.

Its unique blend of print and online content enables you to customize course length and focus to suit your needs. Topic-based units cover each of the four skills in turn, making it easy to find what you want.

Each level includes learning strategies, skills practice, and exam practice designed to help students achieve their target band score. Online skills modules provide additional practice, and Corpus informed modules help learners avoid common mistakes.

Suitable for students preparing for the Academic Module, the course provides access to authentic online practice tests in Testbank. Designed with teachers in mind, Mindset for IELTS Foundation provides support and advice for teachers new to IELTS, and clear links between activities and the test ensure maximum confidence in class.

Mindset for IELTS Foundation

Mindset for IELTS Foundation Level is aimed at students who are thinking about taking IELTS, but who are currently at an A2 level. It teaches students in a linear way and helps them to improve both their general English level and introduces elements of assessment that are helpful for both the IELTS test and English language assessment in general.

It is designed for up to 90 hours of classroom use. The topics have been chosen to help students develop their skills and knowledge in connection with everyday topics at the start of the course and introduces topics that will be useful for the IELTS test as they progress.

  • Topics have been chosen to suit the needs and abilities of students at this level. They help build confidence at the start of the course whilst stretching them in the later stages so that they start to get an idea of what they will meet on the IELTS test.
  • There is coverage of the type of tasks that students at this level can cope with on the IELTS test and more general activities that will give students the foundation for understanding how assessment items work when they progress to a full IELTS course.
  • Each level of Mindset is challenging but doesn’t push students above what they can do.

The book includes 10 lessons with the following topics:

  • Lesson 2: House and home
  • Lesson 3: Hobbies, leisure and entertainment
  • Lesson 4: Travel and holidays
  • Lesson 5: Food

Mindset for IELTS Level 1

Mindset for IELTS Level 1 is aimed at students who are at B1 level and want to achieve a Band 5 or 5.5 result at IELTS. You can follow the book by topic and teach it lineally or alternatively you can focus on the different skills and papers that you would like your students to improve. It is designed for up to 90 hours of classroom use, but you can also focus on key areas of your choice.

The topics have been chosen based on common themes in the IELTS exam and the language and skills development is based on research in the corpus, by looking at the mistakes that students at this level commonly make in IELTS.

Mindset for IELTS Level 1 offers a flexible way of teaching. You can work through the units consecutively or choose the lessons that are important to your students. You can choose to teach the book by topic or by skill.

  • Topics have been chosen to suit the needs and abilities of students at this level, they are topics that occur in the IELTS exam, but are tailored to the needs and interests of your students.
  • There is full coverage of the test both here and in the online modules. However, there is an emphasis on the parts of the exam
    where students aiming at a Band 5 or Band 5.5 will be able to pick up the most marks, maximizing their chances of getting the
    score that they need.
  • Each level of Mindset is challenging but doesn’t push students above what they can do.
  • Grammar and vocabulary is built into the development of skills, so students improve their language skills as well as the skills
    that they need to learn to achieve the desired band score.
