Sample Answer 1:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am very grateful to you for the job opportunity as an internal auditor in your organisation – KSM Chartered Accountants. I am supposed to join on November 1st, however, I regret to inform you that I can not join on the pre-agreed date. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please let me take a moment to elaborate on why I will not be able to join your organisation on the date previously planned. Unfortunately, last week while playing football with some old friends, I severely sprained my ankle. I was rushed to the hospital immediately and took medical care for the next few days. Since my condition is critical and the doctor advised me not to walk for the next few days, it will be practically impossible for me to join your company on the stipulated date.
I trust you can understand my dire circumstances. If possible, I would like to postpone my joining date by two weeks and start my work from 15th November. I hope you would allow me to join two weeks later than previously planned so that I can concentrate on my work immediately after joining your office.
Looking forward to your reply.

Sample Answer 2:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your organisation. I was offered the Junior Executive position in your organisation and was supposed to start my office on 2nd August 2019. However, a problem has arisen and it forces me to delay my joining for a month than initially planned.
As you know, I currently work for my father’s gift shop, and you will remember from my interview that I have gained valuable experience from my involvement in this business. Unfortunately, my father has been admitted to a hospital for his illness, leaving me in charge of both the home and the business. As this is a particularly busy time for the shop, I am forced to take charge of running the shop.
I can understand that it would be inconvenient for you but I am hoping that you would consider the circumstances and allow me to take up my position with your company one month later than the date we initially agreed upon.
I would like to emphasise that I remain very keen to work for your company and would be ready to join from 1st September 2019.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Brian Hall
Sample Answer 3:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my gratitude for the opportunity you have given me to work as a Sales Executive in your company. However, I regret to inform you that my mother has been hospitalised and I will be travelling to my hometown tomorrow. Considering this, I would request you to delay my joining for two weeks.
I have to rush to my hometown as my mother has broken her ribs in an accident and is being treated in a hospital now. My father passed away a few years ago, and I need to be at my mother’s side for a few days. I would, however, get back to Delhi as soon as she recovers, which I guess would take two weeks.
I would request you to empathise with my situation and kindly postpone my date of joining for two weeks. I am very much keen to join your company and would love to work under your supervision.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Geetika Bakshi

Sample Answer 4:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to thank you for offering me the assistant manager post in your organisation. However, I regret to inform you that I am suffering from viral fever severely for the last couple of days and my doctor has predicted that it would take me another week to recover. So instead of reporting on first February, I need an additional two weeks to start my work in Smith and Sons.
During the interview, I informed you that I require 15 days to finish my office works with my current employer. Unfortunately, the fever means I need another week to complete the pending tasks before I can be released from my current company. I would hence request you to consider a delay in my joining. I am positive that I can join the office on the 15th of February.
I must express that I am eagerly waiting to join your company. My sincere apology for any inconvenience caused due to this but considering the situation, I am hoping you would allow me the delay in joining your company.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,

Sample Answer 5:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I have been recruited as a Sales Supervisor by your organisation in an interview held at your Los Angeles office on 17th September and I am supposed to join on 1st November. However, due to a personal emergency, I will not be able to do so and thus I am writing this letter to you to accept a week’s delay in joining.
Last week, my mother became seriously ill and I had to rush her to a local hospital after I travelled to my hometown in Starkville, Mississippi. After a few tests, the doctors informed us that she has severe diabetes and needs medical attention. The doctor instructed that she should be brought to the hospital for a daily checkup for the next three weeks. Coincidentally, my father is not around and I am the only one to take her for the checkup.
I sincerely apologise for not being able to join the job as promised but I assure you that I can start on 8th November 2019. My father is returning home next weekend and he will then take over the responsibility of taking my mother to the hospital, making me available for my office commitments.
Yours faithfully,
John Carter
