Describe a person whom you follow on social media.

You should say:

  • who this person is
  • how you know this person
  • what this person posts on social media

and explain why you follow him/her on social media.

[Instruction: You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer:

In this age of the internet and social media, we tend to meet a lot of people online. Sometimes. We even follow them because we like to identify ourselves with them. Like many others, I also follow a handful of social media personalities, especially, on Facebook, and today, I want to talk about one of them.

His name is Bill Gates, talking about this social media personality who I follow on Facebook, of course. Anyway, it is fair to say that we all know about him in one way or another. But, still, to introduce him a little – Bill Gates is an American business magnate, software developer, investor, author, and philanthropist. However, what he is really more famous for is that he is also the co-founder of Microsoft – one of the world’s leading multinational technology corporations. Besides, Bill Gates is also one of the richest persons in the world.

By the way, I came to know about Mr Bill Gates on TV news for the first time when I was still attending high school. Back then, I didn’t really know much about information technology or computers. But, when I started my junior college a little later, I began to learn more about him – his education, his achievements, and things of that sort – in the newspapers and popular news magazines of my country. However, I learned even more about him when I actually started using the internet and started to follow him on different kinds of social media platforms, especially on Facebook, not too long ago.

Anyway, I like to follow Bill Gates on Facebook mainly because of the content he posts. For example, he posts about his visions as to how to make this world a better place which helps us become more sympathetic to the plights of the poor and needy. Sometimes, he also posts things about his personal and professional achievements which actually encourage me to work even harder. Finally, his posts on the environment of our planet help me understand the danger the world is facing because of us humans’ destructive works.
