Describe something special you brought home from a holiday

You should say:

  • What it was;
  • When and where you went on this holiday;
  • What you did with it after you brought it home;
  • And explain why you think it was something special.

Sample Answer

I’m going to talk about a souvenir I bought at a famous attraction in Hunan Province. It’s a beautiful bookmark made of copper that looks like a small hook. There’s also a delicate plate on the hook that is carved with a diagram of the attraction’s entrance. I’ve never seen such a sophisticated bookmark before, which is why I bought it without hesitation.

Anyway, I bought the bookmark at one of the four most famous academies in Chinese ancient history, the Yuelu Academy. My father took me for a tour around the academy before I was about to start college.

It’s a massive place, almost 20 thousand square meters in area. Most of the architectural structures in the academy are built in Chinese classical styles, and almost all of the buildings are built in only three colors: black, white, and grey, which gives the place a solemn atmosphere. I really enjoyed being there, so I bought the bookmark I mentioned just now. I love it because it perfectly fits the academic environment that Yuelu Academy fostered and promoted.

To this very day, I still use this bookmark. It looks very fancy and elegant, and it reminds me of the solemn environment of the Yuelu Academy. Most importantly, it comes in handy when reading a book. If I go there again, I will definitely buy more to give my friends as gifts.
