You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with.

Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer 1

We can broadly categorise people into two main segments: the first segment of people are comfortable with living in the same place, eating the same types of food, having a career that involves pretty much doing the same thing and taking almost no risks, while others are entirely the opposite who find the meaning of life through risks and challenges and are not afraid of trying new things. I like to take risks, face challenges and enjoy the world’s diversity through travelling and favour the second group of people.

People who avoid challenges or scarcely try new things are comfortable with the lifestyle they already have. They do not want to make life complicated by taking on new challenges that might bring misery or dissatisfaction to their life. Such people are often contended with whatever they have and wish to stay in their comfort zone. Since they are afraid of failure, their success is also limited. We can see many people around us who fall in this category, who, despite seeing potential in a new career, never dare to change their current job or even detest the idea of trying new food.

On the other hand, some people believe that change is constant and that taking on challenges makes life thrilling and enjoyable. They embrace new ideas, travel to difficult places, try new food, experience diversity of life and culture, and get easily bored doing the same thing for a long. These people take risks that bring success. But such success is not always guaranteed, as failure can also occur. I also know such people, and I consider myself one of them. They are often trailblazers, inventors, and creators of new things and ideas. For instance, despite having an excellent job in a multinational company, one of my cousins started a boutique business. No one initially supported his move, but now he is so successful that many others cite him as an example of success.

In conclusion, being in the comfort zone, doing familiar things and taking minimal risks may guarantee comfort and stability in life. Still, real success and great inventions and ideas come from taking risks and embracing challenges. I always favour the second type of attitude that makes life worth living.

Sample Answer 2

Some people like to have new experiences, while others prefer to keep doing what they have always done. I support the former attitude because I see it as a positive way of thinking and behaving.

Those who keep doing the same things may be afraid of being disappointed. If, for example, they have dinner at a new restaurant but find the food not to their taste, they may end up feeling their money is wasted and their evening is ruined. If they just eat somewhere they have been before, there may be a lack of excitement, but at least they won’t be disappointed. I do not like this way of living. I believe using disappointment as an excuse for refusing to make any change is cowardly behaviour.

People who like to experience new things, on the other hand, usually have a very positive view of life. They tend to be excited and optimistic about the new opportunities that could come with a new experience and not be too afraid of the potential downsides it might bring about. Often they are rewarded with good outcomes. Take, for example, those from small towns who took the risk of moving to big cities. Many have found better jobs than they could have if they had just stayed in their hometowns. I like this attitude because, as discussed above, it can help us find our next opportunity in life.

In conclusion, some people keep doing the same old things to avoid disappointment. However, I like those interested in trying new things because they are more optimistic about life.

Sample Answer 3

While some people like trying out new experiences, others would instead stick with the things they already know. Whilst keeping with the things familiar to us is essential to feel comfortable with ourselves; I believe we should be open to new experiences to discover things that may suit us.

On the one hand, maintaining a routine and staying in our comfort zone is necessary to feel safe. Habits are essential if we want to keep order in our life since, in this way, we are in control of the situations that happen daily. Even small actions can be made to keep this routine, for example, by choosing the same dishes for lunch every day or reading the same book genre at the local library.

On the other hand, trying out new things helps us to discover the inexperienced. By trying and experiencing different activities or items, we can find out what might or might not interest us. For example, I like signing up for new activities every year. Last year I started boxing classes, but I was not good at it. However, this situation helped me discover that I am keen on group sports, such as hockey. If I had not tried boxing, I would have never discovered that my real passion is hockey.

In conclusion, although doing familiar things and staying in our comfort zone is essential to maintain our calm, experiencing new things will help us discover things we did not know we liked. I firmly believe that we should have an open mind to try out new things.

Sample Answer 4

Nowadays, many people want to adventure in their life, and they try new things such as visiting new places and trying different food. And others are in opposite of this, doing the same things which they are familiar with it. There are split views of it, and before committing any view, let’s discuss both attitudes.

To support the formal view, people try new things because they want thrill in their life, and many of them are foodies so that they might try all the food around the globe. Furthermore, trying something new brings satisfaction and relation to many life. For example, Bill Grill, an eminent person and professional hill climber, tries different in their life to enjoy his life and make money. So he made his passion into a business. Meanwhile, they learn about different cultures by trying different food and places.

For later views, the main reason for this view is fear. While trying some new places brings fear of getting lost or being a victim of any crime. For example, in India, four young boys went to a famous Indian forest known as the forest of Gujarat. But unfortunately, after some days, local village people find their bodies in the forest, and the reason for their death is an attack by an Asian lion.

Moreover, many people do not want to try something new because they think they will fall into any disease, and many do not like to taste different tastes. To illustrate, many people have tried something new and hate it because of its sour taste. So in the future, they will continue with the food they are familiar with.

Thus, to conclude and give my voice. I am in favour of the formal view. However, being lost in a place that we do not know is a dangerous thrill and an experience that we only get if we try some new places. Besides this, trying new food also adds more things to our life; being fearful of things done in the past can not be very efficient.
