Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training Student’s Book with Answers and Resource Bank allows IELTS learners to enhance their English language skills and prepare for the authentic IELTS test. Students can familiarize themselves with the IELTS exam and practice the test content.

The IELTS exam has both Academic and General Training formats. Candidates often take the IELTS Academic test for postsecondary education or professional registration. Meanwhile, the General Training test is for people seeking secondary education, training programs, or job experience in an English-speaking environment, as well as those emigrating to Australia, Canada, or the United Kingdom. You can learn about IELTS Academic + General Training here.

Cambridge 17 IELTS General Training Overview

The Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training format has not changed since prior editions. However, the Cambridge University Press has added to and expanded upon the themes, making this edition’s content more diverse than the series’ preceding works.

This book provides audio recordings and in-depth explanations for each correct response for the four examinations covering speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Using this tool, you can rapidly and precisely assess your exam preparedness and preparation level. The experts have designed each exam for 2022-2023 with the most recent developments in each language skill.

Inside IELTS 17 General Training (GT) with Answers with Audio, you’ll find FOUR complete examination papers plus details of the different parts of the test and the scoring system, so you can familiarise yourself with the Academic test format and practise your exam technique.

How to Use Cambridge IELTS 17 GT PDF

A minimum IELTS score of around 3.5 is necessary.

Since the Cambridge IELTS 17 series contains all the test questions, you must have an IELTS score of 5.0 or above to succeed with this book series; thus, you need first establish a firm foundation of English knowledge with the course. The IELTS Collins series of exam preparation books will assist you in establishing a firm foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.

Use Cambridge mock tests to evaluate your skills correctly

If there is a significant amount of time between now and the test date (more than one month), you should not practice the exam questions in the Cambridge IELTS 17 book but instead use it as a resource. What is my weakest talent, and how can I develop it quickly?

You may determine your present level by completing 1 or 2 tests from the Cambridge 17 GT book. Once you’ve determined which skill is weaker, you can devote extra time to that skill before taking the exam and complete the three weeks of continuous review like you would for a university or other exam.

Only view the answers after completing the tests.

Never glance at the written answers in the Cambridge IELTS 17 book with a resource bank before sitting the exam, as doing so will lead you to believe that the exam is too simple. Believe me; this will not make you feel better. Therefore, complete everything attentively and thoroughly throughout the test, evaluate your performance and provide the result as the response.

Only perfect practice can make perfect.

There is no reason to take this exam only once; repeating it can help you retain the vocabulary, grammar, and course information and enhance your abilities and score. However, do not retake the Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training test the next day.

Repeat in 1 or 2 weeks when you can take another exam from the Cambridge IELTS series 1-17 since you are sure to recall the results.

Time to guarantee you complete the tests within the given time

The best way to prepare for a test is to put yourself under pressure; don’t wait until the test is done; use the watch to time it just like the actual test.

Listening Activities in Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training

Listening practice is the best approach to improving your listening skills. Continue listening and see what new terminology, sounds, etc., you may learn. With the use of the audio script, weak points can be determined.

Learn the examination structure in your country and administer practice tests there. Which is superior, a pair of speakers or headphones? You’re a desk jockey, right? Is it chilly inside? You may find that this helps you feel more at ease on your test day.

You should have fun while enhancing your listening skills. Instead of reading a book, watch a YouTube video or listen to a podcast.

Reading Activities in Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training

Reading is the most crucial skill for the IELTS. Underline the critical phrases in the questions. Compile a collection of alternative expressions for the same concept. Then, verify your reading comprehension; this will increase your test awareness and help you enhance this skill for all sections of the IELTS.

You will begin to grasp the test’s purpose by generating new questions for each topic. Having a buddy to answer your questions and discuss them is good.

Developing summaries is an adamant and valuable ability. Write a summary after each paragraph or complete the reading. It will drive you to reflect on what is genuinely essential.

Writing Activities in Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training

Students may have difficulty focusing on many subjects simultaneously, such as vocabulary, grammar, concepts, etc. Facilitate your progress. Compose one paragraph for each topic and concentrate on your vocabulary. Then, rewrite the same paragraph, paying particular attention to grammar this time.

Then, there were ideas. Invert the order of the following sentence. Continue to hone your skills before attempting to write an essay on all of them simultaneously.

Use answer examples to help you develop. Compare your previous writings to my example replies. Can you utilize any of your terminologies? Does any grammatical construction exist? Continue enhancing your prior writings by using what you’ve learned from my samples. Then, when you practice alone, aim to recall some of what you have learned.

Speaking Activities in Cambridge IELTS 17 General Training

After reading, ask some related speaking questions. Make a note of your answers, and then compose something. Return to your answers and pay great attention to them. Could there have been anything else you could have said?

Create an additional recording of yourself. Continue to practice the same topic. After a day, review your replies once again. Try again with a new vocabulary and record yourself. Repeat this process until you can hear your progress and are confident you are not wasting time!

Some students rehearse by repeatedly answering the same questions. You sound pretty robotic because of this. Answer the identical question many times with slightly different information each time. This will help you sound more natural and fluent and increase your vocabulary.

Watch a YouTube demonstration to learn how it operates in practice. Included is one of my personal favourites. Using a computer or a buddy, simulate a real exam for yourself. This will reduce your anxiety during the actual examination.
