Describe an item of clothing that someone gave you.

You should say:

  • what type of clothing it was
  • who gave it to you
  • why this person gave it to you

and explain how you felt about it.

[Instruction: You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer:

My cousin, Milton, and I are of the same age. We don’t look the same, but there are some striking similarities between us, as far as our heights, measures of the waist, and physical structures are concerned. This cousin of mine once gave me a piece of clothing item, and today, I would like to share that story with you.

Now, if you are wondering as to what could have possibly motivated me to share some of our physical attributes above in the first paragraph, Milton actually had bought this clothing item – a beautiful looking, navy blue colour, a full cotton half shirt that is – not for me, rather he bought it himself, initially. But, later on, he decided to give it to me, apparently because he just didn’t like it later on just as much as he actually liked it during the time he first bought it.

Anyway, as he was offering the shirt to me, he told me about the reason for doing so, and he also asked me if I liked the shirt. I gladly told my cousin that I liked the shirt very much. In the end, the shirt was officially mine, and it fitted me just perfectly since, as I have already said earlier, both I and my cousin were pretty much identical as far as our size is concerned. By the way, I wanted to offer a price to my cousin for that shirt, he just declined to take any money from me, and instead, he just told me smilingly that I could also give him a shirt sometimes I ever didn’t like it after purchasing it.

To conclude, I felt really happy that I got the shirt, not because it looked very nice or got it for free,  but because of the fact that my cousin was actually kind and considerate enough to have thought about me in the first place. After all, he could have simply returned the shirt and got another one instead from the same store.
