The Key to IELTS Writing Task 2—first published in 2020 and first reprinted in 2021—is written by author Pauline Cullen, a professional at Cambridge University and the author of many famous IELTS books such as The Official Cambridge Guide to IELTS, Vocabulary for IELTS Advanced, Cambridge Vocabulary for IELTS with Answers, The Key to IELTS Success and The Key to IELTS Writing Task 1 Academic.

The Key to IELTS Writing Task 2 will assist you in achieving band 7 or above. There are twenty courses to lead you through the writing stage, beginning with how to develop a one-sentence argument and ending with essay writing. You will be taken step-by-step through the essay writing process, from thinking and generating ideas to planning, writing, and checking, using example responses.

The book focuses on Task 2 of writing skills in both General Training and Academic formats, with 20 lessons, exercises, and examples. It has integrated interactive activities, including listening assignments. These will make studying more engaging while enhancing your language skills and accuracy. In the last session, you will discover six additional timed practice exams.

The Key to IELTS Writing Task 2 Review

The book The Key to IELTS Writing Task 2 is sold as an e-book on the author’s official website https://keytoielts.com. Users will be provided with an account to use during the reading process, along with exercises and materials (worksheets). The book is designed for both self-study and guided self-study.

In terms of layout, the book is divided into 20 lessons with two main parts:

Section 1 includes 10 lessons – Developing task 2 Writing skills: Developing the skills needed to develop arguments, techniques for creating arguments, and examples to give coherent paragraphs. Specifically, readers will be able to approach the article based on grading criteria, how to achieve the requirements listed in each score level, and how to explain and clarify opinions. After understanding how to argue, the reader will learn how to develop a logical and coherent paragraph.

Section 2 includes 10 lessons – Test Practice: Practice with practice tests with sample outlines included.
